How to get a fresh market in your area
tony johnson is a New York City real estate investor who has lived in the city for almost a decade.
He has been doing the opposite of the typical homeowner, by taking a walk to get fresh produce from his garden.
“I’m a garden gardener, but I do it as a hobby,” he said.
“I’m not the kind of guy who goes into the market looking to buy a $500 house.”
Johnson’s garden is full of plants that have long been cultivated, but he hasn’t been able to find them in a local grocery store.
He said he’s been lucky in that it was so far away from the major shopping centers that he’s not worried about a store opening up.
“When I went to the grocery store, I was told I could get a whole store, but the whole thing would be $1,000,” he explained.
“The next thing I know, I get a phone call saying, ‘We’ve got a warehouse right here, we can’t sell it to you because we have no stock.'”
Johnson said he was able to get enough fresh produce in his garden to fill a grocery bag.
But he also needs to be careful.
“You can get crushed tomatoes in a jar,” he noted.
“If you’re lucky enough to get the right container, you can crush them up, put them in your bag and just let them sit.
But if you’re not, you’ve got to have a way to seal it.”
Johnsons wife, who has been gardening for about two years, said he does get to know the market pretty well, and they have been able in the past to get tomatoes from local farms for a very reasonable price.
But this year, he’s starting to worry about how long he can keep doing it.
He’s also been noticing more and more people in his neighborhood who are starting to complain about the amount of people walking to their gardens to get produce.
Johnson has started making a list of the farmers he can trust and has started calling the store every other week to see if they will take some of his produce.
The first week he called, he got a response from a few farmers, but since then, Johnson says the number of farmers has dropped dramatically.
“It’s really discouraging.
There’s just a huge number of people who are complaining about it,” he told Business Insider.
“We’re getting the word out that they need to be able to sell their produce to the public and get a real return on their investment.”
