Stock Market Ticker: Canada’s market is the safest in the world
Posted December 03, 2018 06:04:28A report released on Thursday by the Canada Securities Administrators (CSAs) found that the benchmark S&P 500 (TSX) index is now at an all-time high of 17,983.57, with the S&am index at 12,857.93.
The market is still on track to be the safest stock market in the industrialized world.
The CSAs report says that while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is now down about 6.5% in the last 12 months, the SACs index of stocks has remained relatively stable.
The index has also been the safest since its inception in January 1993, according to the CSAs.
This is despite the fact that the economy is contracting, the U.S. stock market is down about 2% in 2017 and the Dow is down more than 10% in 2018.
The S&s index was up 4.7% in 2019, the CSAS said, and it has increased a whopping 7.5%, which is more than twice the rate of the Dow’s gains.
The report, released by the CSA, noted that there has been a substantial drop in the amount of volatility in the market.
It also said that while stock markets tend to be volatile, it is “likely” that the market will continue to experience a decline in volatility over the next few years.
