Mom’s Organic Market, Krog Street Market to close by the end of 2019
Krog street in east London is set to close on Monday, after the city’s Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs announced plans to demolish the local market and shutter the market’s remaining five stores, with the rest to be moved to another part of the city.
“It’s the end, it’s the beginning,” said Karen O’Donnell, the executive director of the KrogStreet Markets Association, the local association of organic food retailers in east Londonderry.
“The market is gone, the community is not going to be able to support it anymore.”
“It was really the community that was the big issue with this one,” she said.
“There’s a lack of planning, there’s a very, very low quality of life.
The community felt it was not being properly addressed.”
The Krogstreet Market Association says that the closure will see the closure of the five remaining Krogstops on the main shopping strip between King Street and Krog, as well as two additional smaller stores that were being planned in the nearby Krog and Kromborough areas.
